Hot Chocolate Affogato with Peppermint Candy Whipped Cream

Ingredients 

For the Hot Chocolate 

1 ½ cups Zeal Creamery Whole Milk 

½ cup heavy cream 

¼ cup granulated sugar 

¼ teaspoon kosher salt 

1 teaspoon vanilla extract 

6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped 

1 Tablespoon espresso powder 

For the Peppermint Candy Whipped Cream 

1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled  

2 tablespoons powdered sugar

3 tablespoons crushed candy canes 

For Serving 

1 pint preferred flavor of ice-cream 

Directions 

  1. Make the peppermint candy whipped cream: To a large stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, add the whipping cream and powdered sugar. 

  2. Turn to medium-high speed and whip until stiff peaks form. 

  3. Use a spatula to fold in the crushed peppermint candies. Transfer to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator until ready to use. 

  4. Make the hot chocolate: To a medium saucepan over medium heat, add all ingredients. Cook, whisking constantly until chocolate has melted and mixture is smooth and hot, about 10 minutes.

  5. Scoop ice cream into cups; pour hot cocoa on top; dividing it evenly. Top each with a dollop of peppermint candy whipped cream and serve.
